Robots in the future
People will become too depended on robots - they will forget how to do jobs themselves. However,robots can be used in surgery.
What are people's fears?
People developed a wrong idea about robots due to movies. We tend to think that robots are dangerous and evil. Humans fear that robots will attack us during the Robocalypse. This is not justified, if you are scared of robots then you should also be scared of the people who build them.
How might the future look with Humans and robots living in harmony?
The future will then be filled with advanced technology and robots doing the unwanted jobs.
another reason for not wanting them is because people are scared that if they are not used appropriatly they can become dangerous. Also, according to the reports from Sweden, one worker of the factory got "attacked" by a robot.

My Future...
I've just come back from work. This month we've had 2 more buildings built on Mars. They're not exactly furnished yet, and people can't exactly start moving in to them, but I guess that's not that big of a problem seeing as only very few have actually been transported from Earth to Mars. By now, there's probably only around 30 people. Do still feel sorry for them though. But enough about that for now. Now that I'm back I have to take the SCar to the garage. I think it needs a bit of fixing cause it won't seem to come more than 1 meter off the ground, which ofcourse isn't normal for the latest Space-Car.
Talking about repair, I think it's time to replace Maria because she's starting to get slower, and now I find myself changing her batteries more often. I'm not saying that she's useless, I mean she still does the washing, cleaning and taking care of the kids when I'm off at work, but she's slowing down. I might keep her for another month or two but after that..hmmm. Not sure.
Omg! You should see the new cooker I got. You can say I've updated. I treated myself to the new CookYourself 2. So now, if the kids are starving, all they have to do is tell it what they want and it'll provide - well that is only if it's been refilled of course.
I guess you could say that was one hell of a busy day.

Summary of cloning
Medical ethics : Cloning
Is cloning ethically acceptable considering the fact that it involves medical complications?
Cloning is the process of making a clone, a genetically identical copy of an organism. Cloning is now done for the purpose of research. Now, there is a new method called the somatic cell nuclear transfer that resulted in a genetic twin of Dolly the sheep.
Cloning by using the method of duplicating the somatic cell necleus can be used for cloning.
However, the cloning animals often exhibit severe birth defects.Also, female animals carrying cloned fetuses face many serious medical complications that may result in their death.
*Not only does the process involve medical issues, it also involves ethical concerns. Many people believe that scientists do not have the right to 'play God.'
* Cloning is also seen as going against religious beliefs since the cloning is not a natural process, but developed by scientists.
Cloning develops many side effects along with the possibility of decreasing life expectancy, cloning has become an ethical debate over the years.
Data from previous experiments illustrate the problems involved. Typically, very few cloning attempts are successful.
The medical debate about cloning involves two important factors.
- Firstly, research has to be done on a living organism. Hence animal rights are affected in the process.
-Secondly, assuming further research will become successful; is it ethically acceptable to clone humans?
Benefits:
-Cloning has been thought to be the solution to infertility.
-Also, successful cloning can provide organs for transplantion.
-Cloning of stem cells will provide treatments for variety diseases.
Drawback: However, ethically speaking, many people believe that cloned humans are also living organisms. And, are we allowed to play god?
Overall, looking at both the benefits and drawbacks of cloning, cloning is in my perspective ethically acceptable. Even though it involves medical complications in animals, how else can the medical world evolve? As mentioned before, cloning may lead to the cure of diseases or lay become the answer to infertility. Nevertheless, only further research can tell whether cloning will be an option in the future. Since cloning is done for the benefit of humans, it should be continuened.
International Law: North-Korea
It is difficult to get a clear picture of North-Korea, but what we do know is that the North-Korean government controls all activities within the nation(this includes the radio, news and other television organisations. The television usually praises Kim Jong-Il(the leader of North-Korea). Citizens are not allowed to freely speak their minds.
There are a few churches in North-Korea but, it has been claimed by North Korean defectors that these churches are façades filled with government workers, and that they are there to convince foreign workers and tourists in Pyongyang(the capital of North-Korea) that North Korea is a free country. North Korean citizens usually cannot freely travel around the country, especially not abroad. Only the politicians are allowed to own cars and the government limits access to fuel and other forms of transportation due shortages of fuel. Babies born with physical defects are rapidly put to death and buried.
Public and secret executions of prisoners, even children, especially in cases of escape attempts also often happen.
In the mid 90's over a million people died on the other side of the world without anyone noticing. Millions of people starved and hundreds of thousands were imprisoned in concentration camps. Most of the North-Koreans think it is normal how they live and have no idea of freedom. LINK is an organisation which helps North-Korean escapees to escape and to prepare for the future. Many escapees are mentally not ready to enter the normal society, so LINK helps them to understand everything.
U.N. Watch added that with millions starving under the current regime, it is unconscionable for the U.N. to grant the country a position of high stature: “As one of the world’s worst violators of human rights, North Korea should not be granted the symbolic legitimacy of chairing a world body dedicated to peace.”
U.N. agencies and humanitarian groups are doing their best to provide North-Koreans with food packages, money and other helpful items to help them survive but they continue to have trouble knowing how their aid is distributed. Once, a North-Korean was asked if he had gotten any help from the outside world, including food packages and medicine. He said that he had never heard of such a thing. This means that the North-Korean government is holding all the items the U.N. Agencies send them.
Speaking at the end of a five-day visit to North Korea, Valerie Amos, a U.N. undersecretary-general, said Friday that 6 million North Koreans, particularly children, mothers and pregnant women, need help. The figures, she said, are born out by UN data and by what she learned from visits to farms, hospitals and orphanages, as well as from officials.
People's daily food, she said, consist of rice, corn, cabbage, little else and no protein or nutrient rich foods. The government does not care about this and chooses to keep the aid packages to themselves.
Amnesty International is also doing their best to help North-Koreans out of this horrible situation. They are calling on Kim Jong-Il to:
-Confess the existence of prison camps
-Immediately close these prison camps
-Immediately release all the prisoners
-Release all other inmates unless they are charged with an internationally offence

An idea about the future
Future
Waking up at the tune of the ocean, I saw my father's car flying past my aquarium glass window as he was going to work. I clapped my hands, and automatically every electronic device in the room turned on.
Beside me I found my personal robot standing like a soldier, waiting quietly to do my bed. Standing on the floor, the silver carpet moved me to the bathroom where my automated dress maker was located. I stepped inside, and less than a few seconds later I was dressed as if going to the oscars.
My teeth were brushed and hair was perfectly combed. Stepping back on my silver carpet, it took me to the escalator which took me downstaits to the kitchen. As expected, the houserobot ws already busy making lunch.
On the digital table, there was enough breakfast to feed an entire army. Sitting down on my chair it turned into relax mode - by slowly stretching your spine and neck, and making you as comfortable as possible. As I put my hand on the table My two automatic dogs jumbed out of my 3D t.v and quietly stood beside me. Fifteen minutes later I walked out of the house and stepped into my car.
As the seat adjusted to my position, the car started and slowly started its engines to fly into the air. In a matter of minutes I was already at school. It was the 14th of october, the day apple couldn't keep up with the latest technology and sold their factories to their biggest shareholders. Walking into the classroom Mr mitchell was already standing ready to teach from home. Considering the fact that sickness was no longer a valid exuse for not teaching, he turned on his Ipad 59 from home so he can be projected into the classroom while walking around in his room. Sitting on my flying carpet, the students couldn't wait for class to end. Our books were flying around us 45 minutes into the lesson, waiting for the students to take them as class came to an end. Our flying books were the latest invention of apple's new owners. Three years ago they developed a microchip that could make them fly into the air at the sound of the student's voice. In a matter of weeks, both europe and america where already using this new invention. The only country that ordered the least amount of books was China, considering their one child policy - some things never change.
My life in 2061~
Today when I went to pick up my grandchildren, my flying shuttle broke down. The water reservoir came loose. This means that I can't drive for another week. The waterman comes every sunday and it is only monday today... I tried to ask Siri on my iPhone 77s to contact the waterman, but he didn't want to pick up. This is so typical, us middle-class people don't get the same privileges as those rich bitches. I miss the days when we all had water, too much water to be honest. But now, we have to fight for it. Jin is still on Mars for a business trip... And i haven't been able to contact him yet because I heard the connection there isn't always stable. Maybe he is just cheating on me with some robot. Luckily I have Seong Jae, my only son who I love to death. He flew to Mars yesterday to spy on Jin. I wouldn't know what to do without him. Oh well, I have to go now... The Great Leader is having a speech which we all have to attend. Sometimes I wish I'd never moved to South-Korea...

In this video by Mr Ken Robinson, he tells us how that because of schools children loss their creativity. He says that “Creativity should be given equal status as literacy in education”.
If you make mistakes you come up with better ideas in the future. In school they teach us not to make mistakes. So , this is a short summary of the video.

Education For All
Private Education: A Choice Decision
Is private school better or the public school?
There is no such thing is a perfect school...because nobody is perfect!
Each every school has their own way of educate the students, for this reason, parents should look at their child's needs, taking into account strengths, weaknesses, interests, and talents. Also knowing what sort of learning environment the child would be most comfortable in. Make a list of all the schools in your area. Call and ask them to send information about their school. Once the information has arrived, look at each school's program, mission, services, faculty, and ask yourself the following questions:
• Is there a vision for the future?
• What makes the school unique?
• Is there anything the school does particularly well?
Parents should not be deterred by the cost of school fees. Some of the most expensive schools also have the largest amounts of financial aid available. The school you expected to love may disappoint you, and you may find a gem where you didn't expect one.
Education for All
Education for all!
Education
Education, the dictionary meaning is the act or process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills, as for a profession.
There are a majority of people who take online classes. Do you think its appropriate for you to sit at home and in front of the computer doing your work
In school, you learn lessons necessary to pass a test. These lessons are taught to you step by step, and geared towards an examination that is scheduled for a certain time and date. The grade you get on the test is recorded, and that is how you’re potential is calculated.
In life, you take tests necessary to learn lessons. Every test throughout life is a challenge that must be overcome, and with every challenge something new is discovered.

Education
Firstly, kids don’t have time, most kids are busy or they want to have time to relax. Homework is important but to much homework is not good. Some kids have family time, like movie night & stuff like that. Some people go to church, or do activities after school & they don’t have their whole lives to do homework.
Secondly, Believe it or not, if kids get to much homework, they get lazy & eventually don’t want do it at all. Then when they go to hand it in, they get a low marks because they don’t have it done. Or, if they have a bunch of homework, and good people that actually do it, might forget their homework at home, and then they dont get marks because they forget it.
Students should do class work, then a lot of homework, because if students are on a problem at home, they will get stuck and they wouldnt be able to do it. they might have parents at home to help, but some parents might not be able to understand what to do.
I beleive that we shouldnt get so many homework because some kids might be busy or they want to have time to relax instead of doing school work at home. some kids get so many homework that they stay up really late doing it.

BLOOD DIAMONDS
Because of blood diamonds,children have been forced to live on the dangerous streets as a result of war and poverty.Also because of blood diamonds women and young girls have been raped these By these rebel fighters,and young boys have been kidnapped and taught how to kill.Also because of blood diamonds human atrocity have been committed example hacking of the limbs of innocent civillians in serria Leone.young girls have been torn away from their famillies to be sex slaves,and also men were captured and forced to work in the mines of the blood diamonds,and if they refused they wil be straight away killed. young girls have been forced into child prostitution as it brings in quick money.and also there has been a wide spread of sexually transmitted disease especially aids because of these rapes
The international community such as the united nation set up an international body which oversees all diamond production,export,import etc.as a way to fight blood diamonds,they make sure that diamonds are conflict free,its known as the KIMBERELY PROCESS CERTIFICATION SCHEME.
It was introduced in 2003 by the united general assembly,to prevent these blood diamonds from entering the mainstream rough diamonds market,it was setup to assure consumers that by purchasing diamonds they were not financing war and human right abuse.the KPCS and the united nations have had a huge amount of succes since it was introduced in 2003, as at first 45% of diamonds traded were blood diamond and now 99% percent of diamonds traded are conflict free or are not blood diamonds.

Summary: Gun Ownership - should it be allowed or not?
→ In order to be able to possess a gun, you have to first obtain a certificate;
→ There are many checks through which a person first has to pass before he could be issued with such a certificate: drug abuse check, mental state check, whether the person has a secure space in which to store the weapons, etc;
→ Many debates are currently going on about whether the gun ownership should be limited due to tragic casualties associated with them, such as homicides, suicides and massacres;
→ One of the examples of a massacre was the incident in Norway in the Summer of 2011, when a man dressed as a policeman entered the Liberal Party Youth Camp, where there were many youngsters between the age of 16-22, and a few as young as 13, as well as adults of 30 years old. The man opened fire, killing around 90 youngsters. Both Britain and America were appaled by the actions of the terrorist, and condemned his actions. The British Police has offered help with the investogation of the reasons behind shooting. The Security Council of the UN has also condemned the actions in Norway in the "strongest terms" and they have sent their sympathies and condolences to the victims and the Norwegian government. The Council stated: ``Any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed.'' This basically means this terroristic attack shall not be justified that no matter what the intentions or the reasons behind it were;
→ A massacre like that is not the first one to take place. There was also an incident before which took place in Dunblane, Britain, where 16 schoolkids and their teacher got killed by a man named Thomas Hamilton. This action was followed by a ban on all handguns by the UK Parliament;
→ But despite the tragic outcomes of the gun usage, there are still many benefits of owning a gun, such as, giving people a means by which to defend themselves against crimes and threats. Also, guns aren't only used for killing people, but have an applicance in the leasure and farming sector. A farmer can use a gun to protect his livestock from wild animals, while leisure industry includes activities such as target shooting and hunting, which is even limited to specific areas;
- In England and Wales there are 713,674 certified holders of guns, and more than 1.4 million of shotguns are being held, as well as around 450,000 firearms. The numbers in Ireland are way lower;

Education for All project by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)
HISTORY: The Education for All movement is a global commitment to provide quality basic education for all children, youth and adults. The movement was launched at the World Conference on Education for All in 1990 by UNESCO, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF and the World Bank. Participants endorsed an 'expanded vision of learning' and pledged to universalize primary education and massively reduce illiteracy by the end of the decade. Ten years later, with many countries far from having reached this goal the international community met again and affirmed their commitment to achieving Education for All by the year 2015. They identified *six key education goals which aim to meet the learning needs of all children, youth and adults by 2015.
MISSION: is to promote education as a fundamental human right, to improve the quality of education and to facilitate policy dialogue, knowledge sharing and capacity building.
*THE SIX GOALS: Six internationally agreed education goals aim to meet the learning needs of all children, youth and adults by 2015. For more information on the goals visit:
http://www.unesco.org/new/en/education/themes/leading-the-international-agenda/education-for-all/efa-goals/
STRATERGY: Promoting partnership, Mobilizing resources, Capacity building, Monitoring progress, Ensuring effective use of aid, Communication and advocacy.
Education is a key factor in our lives. Thus, this project contributes to global education. UNESCO looks forward to eradicate illiteracy and educate the youth for a better living and for progress.

Animal testing and its moral & ethical justification:

Summary:
● When is animal testing acceptable?
- when the suffering of the animals is reduced to as much as possible in all experiments;
- when human benefits obtained can not be achieved in any other alternative way;
● When is animal testing unacceptable?
- when animals suffer during the process;
- when the benefits to humans aren't proven;
- when there are alternative means to animal testing available, to gain those benefits for human beings;
● Many consider it justified, for it will result in such major benefits for humans, that it seems morally acceptable to harm a few animals;
● On the contrary so many animals are involved in it, which are in so much pain, that humanly benefits don't make up for the justification of these experiments;
● How can we make it less harsh on the animals?:
- reduction of the number of animals used in the process by ensuring that information and results are shared with other researchers, and also by improving the experimental techniques and data analysis;
- refining the experiment by using the methods which are less harmful; improving the medical care for animals and their living conditions in those research enterprises;
- replacing experiments on animals by other means of testing, such as: extracting cells from animals and performing the tests on those, instead of on the whole animal body; encorporating the usage of computer models; using human volunteers, who don't mind those tests being performed on them, being primarily warned of the possible side effects; using epidemiological studies, which identifies the methods for preventing diseases rather than how to treat them;
● Why can't we simply ban the animal testing all together?
- scientist staye that it would have significant consequences, such as: an end to testing drugs and humans being the only organisms left to experiment on;
● The sole purpose of animal testing is not to prove that the drugs are safe and effective to give to humans, but to highlight that a certain drug could be tested on a person without severe negative effects, for animal testing gets rid of the drugs potentially dangerous to people;
● Not all scientists agree on the statement that animal testing is useful - "a great deal of animal experimentation has been misleading and resulted in either wisholding of drugs, sometimes for years, that were subsequently found to be highly beneficial to humans, or to the release and use of drugs that, though harmless to animals, have actually contributed to human sufferings and death" - says Jane Goodall;
● Not only the moral justification is important, but also the ethical approach of the experimenters towards their subjects - "the lack of ethical self-examination is common and generally involves the denial or avoidance of animal suffering, resulting in the dehumanization of researchers and the ethical degradation of their research subjects" - by John P. Gluck, 1991;
● The advice which John P. Gluck then gave to the scientists is that there should be clear scientific motives of the research and that they have to make themselves aware of the suffering it might cause to the animals, and to try and minimise it to as much as possible;
● These experiments commonly violate animal rigts, and no one's rights should ever be violated according to the morality;
● The argument constatntly ongoing is whether the benefits to humans outweigh the suffering caused to animals?

Animal Testing
"Animal research has contributed to many medical advances which we now take for granted. Antibiotics, anaesthetics, organ transplants and insulin for diabetes are just some of the breakthroughs that have depended on animal research. The polio vaccine alone has saved millions of lives. And Herceptin was not only developed and tested in mice, it actually comes from mice. This modern medicine can save the lives of women with breast cancer." Festing, S. 2008.
So the question is "Does the sanctity of life extend to the rest of the animal kingdom?"
Are these tests really necessary? PETA think not.
"Most of these barbaric and senseless experiments are funding by the federal government using the public’s tax dollars and by health charities, including the American Cancer Society, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the March of Dimes who are wasting precious dollars on cruel, irrelevant experiments on animals instead of spending the money on promising human-based research." PETA. 2011.
What do you think?

The Hague International Model United Nations
When we went to the conference last year we were not very well trained or equipped for the session. This year there was a huge improvement. All the students had a resolution prepared for their specific committees.
I was the delegate of Kenya in the Human Rights Council. The topics of discussion were:
1.Promoting the rejection of doctrines based on racial indoctrination and xenophobia
2.Child welfare in areas of armed conflict
My resolution was based on the promoting the rejection of doctrines. My resolution was mainly co-submitted by Thailand and during the lobbying, appreciated and signed by 7 other delegations. Due to technological faults my final resolution with some amendments by the co submitters could not be printed. Then too, the session turned out be very informative and successful as I could understand all the issues brought out by the delegations, thanks to the research done before the conference. The resolutions prepared by other delegates gave me a better way in which I could plan my resolutions for the upcoming conference.
I found that our topics both had something to do with Education. Resolutions which did not talk about education in either of the topics were not considered good by delegations.
During the General Assembly I got to express my opinion by having the chance to speak at the podium about the issue of racial indoctrination and xenophobia. The resolutions prepared for the G.A. were well set-out, termed appropriately, well-researched.
Pfizer drug scandal
The biggest punishment in US drug company history was given to Pfizer a major corporation that made a drug called Bextra or the name of Valdecoxib.
The drug was supposed to be for approved only as an anti-inflammatory related to osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
In 2009 alone, Pfizer through its subsidiary Pharmacia and Upjohn Company was hit with a 2.3 billion dollar fine with the “intent” to mislead and defraud the public.
The drug giant actually admitted to committing these offenses but the CEO’s never received any punishment, which is entirely a huge mistake. Even though some of the little men that were caught burning paperwork, files and reports a district manager was only charged with home confinement.
Another regional manager was found guilty of distributing a mislabeled drug and was given a slap on the hand of two years probation and a $ 75,000 fine. A small inconvenience and a pittance for multi-national multi-billion dollar corporate giant.
Instead the pharmaceutical marketed the drug through various promotional methods and to doctors as a painkiller.
Pfizer hit with Billions in Fines for Fraud on Bextra
Bextra was approved by the FDA which doesn’t say much these days in 2001 and was pulled in 2005 because of dangerous side effects such as asthma like reactions or breathing difficulties of consumers. However the FDA gave Bextra a five year run of profits for Pfizer of billions of dollars profit in those five years of running a scam in this particular drug.
By expanding it’s uses Pfizer increased sales profits which would come in handy for lawsuits and fines later. The whole scam of approvals and a 5 year run then slapping a ban on these drugs is a fraud that the public is well aware of today.
The major problem with this drug is that it caused heart attacks, stroke and angina besides the serious skin reactions experienced from people who took the drug.
Pfizer also is paying 1 billion to Medicare and other government health insurance schemes to reimburse those organizations for over billing for this drug.
Like a long laundry list of dirty drug company CEOs who should be sharing a jail cell with Bernie Madoff the CEO’s are bent on a “profit at any costs” as the drug company representative testified in court.
Thanks to honest people who still do exist in this world Mr. John Kopchinski an ex-Pfizer sales rep was told to push Bextra at “all costs for all symptoms” and he just could not do it.
He said this drug put people’s lives at risk and he just could not do that as he testified in court he has probably saved millions of people from strokes and possible deaths.
Wyeth Drug Company for lying about breast cancer risks on Prempro and Hormone Replacement Drugs. Wyeth is also being investigated for hiring ghost writers to falsify reports from professional endorsements from retired professors and doctors. Wyeth dictated to these endorsers who’s reputations now are mud, what to say and how to describe the drug’s effectiveness which was all false information. Wyeth should be in court for fraud and other charges however they are still fighting the Prempro cases which gave middle age women -breast cancer and heart attacks.
The state of affairs with the Swine Flu Vaccine which was rushed to the market is that it is now in jeopardy because of the ingredients. As much as the government forced the vaccine through various new laws people defying the government’s call for mandating mass vaccinations for the swine flu. As it turns out the forcing of vaccines by government through drug company lobbyists backfired.
The drug company motto for the past few decades has been to make profits -at any cost -it does not matter how many people get killed in the process.
The next job for President Obama is to clean house and fire the FDA administration especially the top executives who are corrupt and accepting bribes for drug company approvals. It is not a huge surprise that this will continue unless he stops accepting campaign contributions from big pharmas like Pfizer however the public does not believe in the scam system of drug approvals. They follow the money.

Euthinasia and assisted suicide
People who undergo euthinasia have incurable condition.in some other casess,rhey just want their lives to
end
Euthinasia is illegal in most coup in the world apart from belgium switzerland
The ethics behind euthinasatia
This topic raises alot of question such as:
*Is it very right to end the life of terminolgy patient who is undergoing severe pain an suffering
*Under what circumstances can euthinasia be justified,if at all
*is there any moral difference between killing someone and letting them die
WHY DO PEOPLE WANT EUTHINASIA
Most people think it is only because of having unbearable pain,some survey from the usa and the netherland show that less than a third of people request euthinasia because of pain
Terminally ill people can have their quality of life severly damaged by physical conditions such nausea,incontinence,breathlessness,paralysis, etc. Also phsycological factors such depression,fearing of loss of dignity,feeling of burden can make peoplethink of euthinasia.
FORMS OF EUTHINASIA
Active and passive
In active euthinasia a person directly causes death but in passive,they dont directly kill the patient but simply just allow him to die.
With active euthinasia,death is brought to you by an act but with passive euthinasia death is brought to you by an ommision. Eg,letting a person die by withdrawing or withholding treatment.
Voluntary and involutary euthinasia
Voluntary euthinasia is when euthunisia occurs at the requst of the person and involuntary is when doesnt have a descision to make a meaningful descison so its done on his behalf.
Plastic surgery and its consequences
- Summary:
● the patients who have too much expectations from the plastic surgery can end up being depressed, if the outcome of the operation doesn't meet their expectations. This can lead to the developpement of family problems, social isolation and anger towards the surgeons;
● the dissatisfaction of the outcome of the operation can also cause self-esteem issues;
● although some patients' ego does get boosted enormously and they even start participating in the beauty pageons, without feeling self-consious and having negative body image thoughts;
● the negative outcomes of plastic surgery are sometimes linked with suicide;
● It is risky to perform operations on people younger than 18, since they are still in the stage where they are developping physically and mentally;
● a large proportion of Plastic Surgery patiens experiences body dysmorphic syndrome;
● pmany people who are about to go into the plastic surgery trearment or who have already done it, usually seek assistance from the psychologist, which highlights the link betwen the plastic surgery and the mental state of a person;
● Quotes:
-"Studies have shown that people report increased satisfaction with the body part they had surgery on, but results are mixed on whether plastic surgery boosts their self-esteem, quality of life, self-confidence and interpersonal relationships in the long term";
- "Some studies have even gone as far as linking dissatisfaction with cosmetic surgery procedures to suicide. For example, in one study, the National Cancer Institute found in 2001 that women with breast implants were four times more likely to commit suicide than other plastic surgery patients of the same age as the women who underwent breast implants";
Personal opinion: I think that if a person already has a lot of issues concerning their appearance, then the plastic surgery might not necessarily solve all the problems, since low self-esteem is more of a mental issue, and a person who doesn't love themselves will always find something negative about their appearance;

Christopher Reeve - Stem cells
Summary:
- Christopher Reeve (1952-2004) was an actor (Superman)
- He was thrown from a horse during an equestrian event. Reeve landed on his head and suffered multiple injuries, including two shattered vertebrae, resulting in a C2 spinal cord injury. He stopped breathing for a couple of minutes and the injury blocked almost all neural communication between his brain and body.
- Doctors predicted that he would never have feeling or movement below his head
- He considered suicide after hearing this
- He became an advocate for stemcell research, therapeutic cloning and increased funding for spinal cord injury research.
- He opened the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center that helps paralysed people live more independently.
- Despite Reeve's heavy therapy his condition didn't improve much during the first five years.
- He was a hero and an inspiration for other living with paralysis and fought for embryonic stem cell research
- He died after having a heart attack during treatment for an infected pressure wound
Quotes:
"Perhaps it's my job to offend some scientists," Reeve told the Lasker Foundation last year after receiving the group's annual award for public service. "I'm not asking them to be reckless or unprofessional, but I do want to reinforce a sense of urgency."Key points: The story of Christopher Reeve, a man who fought for stem cell research

Swedish doctor charged with infant euthanasia
The details were sketchy but legal proceedings began yesterday in the case of a Swedish doctor accused of alleged infant euthanasia in a children’s hospital.
A 57-year-old doctor, whose name was not disclosed in the story that ran in asiaone.com, “has been charged with manslaughter or alternatively attempted manslaughter for allegedly administering excessive doses of thiopental, an anesthetic” to a three-month-old baby who was born prematurely. If convicted, she faces six to 10 years in prison.
The focus of the story was less on what the doctor was alleged to have done than on the “deep unease among the country’s medical profession” where “legal procedures against doctors are very rare,” according to asiaone.com.
According to the news service, after the doctor consulted with the family and “conclude[ed] that the baby’s life could not be saved,” she removed the child from life support. However in the autopsy that followed, the family learned “that the infant had received abnormally high doses of thiopental, and the family then had charges pressed against the doctor.”
The story quoted Swedish medical officials who took one of two positions. First, that to question yourself is “part of the job,” but if doctors now “think things over a bit more” it can “unnecessarily delay medical care,” according to Marta Christensen, the deputy head of Stockholm’s Association of Medical Practitioners. Alternatively, (according to Professor emeritus Margareta Leijonhufvud) “that in end-of-life medical care, ethical guidelines allow doctors to administer painkillers even if it means death comes sooner than it otherwise would have.”
The latter rationale ignores that the doctor did not ask the parents’ permission to administer a powerful anesthetic. According to the story, having been told the baby could not be saved, they agreed only to remove the child from life support.
The former justification (by Dr. Christensen) implies that asking the parents for authorization to do something she wanted will endanger the way medicine is practice in Sweden. It also included the conclusion that “A sense of insecurity has plagued the entire medical corps.” That may be because malpractice cases typically are heard by the National Board of Health and Welfare “with no criminal ramifications,” according to the news service. http://www.nationalrighttolifenews.org/news/2011/09/swedish-doctor-charged-with-infant-euthanasia/

Scientists Use Monkey Clones to Extract Stem Cells
Cloning
Scientists in Oregon are now cloning the embryo's of monkeys. This is the first time such cells have been produced in any animal other than a mouse, but the method, could potentially work when cloning humans.
In south korea in 2004 scientists had wanted to do the same thing with humans, although the experiment did not succeed, they proved the cloning of embryo's is not an impossible task.
The monkey stem cells were genetically identical to an adult monkey.Medical researchers hope they could one day use human embryonic stem cells to study diseases and supply replacement cells to treat them. If this could be possible, it will be one of the most successful projects in the medical world as it could save thousands of lives every single year.
An advantage of using cloning to obtain stem cells is that they would genetically match a patient’s cells, making it unnecessary to suppress the immune system if the stem cells are used in treatment. Cloning could also produce stem cells that genetically match patients with complex diseases like Alzheimer’s. That might let scientists study those cells and understand how the diseases progress. This could lead to better knoweldge of these diseases, that could potentially lead to development of mediaction to treat these complex diseases.
For now, scientists only use monkeys. However it is only a matter of time for them to start using humans since their research with monkeys has proved to be successful.
Not only have monkey's embryo cells been cloned. The scientists have recently also cloned heart and nerve cells - the most important factors in a human body as well as in monkeys.
Although most attempts of cloning wats, now scientists have found a method of extracting cells more carefully, making their research more successful. They have not officially cloned any monkeys yet, however it seems to be only a matter of time for it to become a possibility.

Education for All : MDG II
Target: Ensure that, by 2015, all boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling.
Two major factors that can hinder the possibilities of achieving such a goal are:
1. Poverty
2. Gender Inequality
Poverty: The LEDC's of the world, have not been sucessful in achieving this goal as the people cannot afford the schooling of their children. India, the country that I hail from, is an LEDC. Moreover it has its own economic problem as 1/4th of its population lives in poverty. The people living in slum areas and small villages find it difficult to earn enough income from being occupied in small-scale businesses. For example, if there is a farmer, he would rather have his child to work with him on his farm than send him to school because it cuts costs and helps him to reduce other labour costs. Therefore, with this mentality and state of living young children do not get the education they need.
Some improvements are trying to be made to bring about a change in these lifestyles. But, they are not very effective. For example, in a slum area of Mumbai, Dharavi, Sugata Mitra has installed computers in the slums through his 'Hole in the Wall' project.
www.bit.ly/pcVd62 (gapminder-india)
www.bit.ly/onRarm (gapminder-world)
Gender Inequality: Gender inequality has been another problem that becomes the hinderence in achieving the MDG. Many countries still give boys a higher preference than girls, therefore they can gain an education easily than girls can. The gender inequality is a clear example of the mindset of people which is not a joke to change. At the time when many world leaders are emerging females, there are some people who do not believe in giving the right to education to women. More girls, at the age of primary and secondary, are out of school than boys.

Inequality and reason why women cant contribute more in the economy
Potential.Some of these reasons are
1.Women earn less than men-staticstics from the OECD 2006 and the London school of Economics show that women earn only about
50-75% of what men earn,with this women will not be able to contribute properly to the economy
2.Unpaid jobs-more women are forced to engage in upaid jobs resulting to fewer women working in full paid jobs
This will make it less for women to get involved in the economy.
3.Less education oppertunities than men- although of women are being educated,men are still educated more,also high professions which will
A require a alot of school education and years of practise so by the time the they are ready in their 30 or so usually toothis is the time whe
Women give birth. They will have to stop and take time of and so many other things factors like this dont realy make women contribute alot the economy
4.women have unequal distribution of the worlds property,they are not given enough land,capital ect.without these things they might not be able to make a living for they will not be able to contribute to the economy effectively.
5.Jobs that are likely to be paid less are mostly done by women,like childcare,cloth processing etc.
6.staticstics show that women live longe than men,but when they grow old the pension fr womn is much less or men,and these ar all inequalities between men an women.
If you study this closer you can see that there are two main factors,firstly its clear inequality some caes women are are treated unfairly without any reasonable expanation, and secondly it has to do with the natural way of things,how are the ones to give birth,so have to take time of work or the have to be the ones to take care of the children etc

Heart Disease and Obseity
Obesity and Heart disease problems in America:
This article is about obesity in the United States. In America there is a high percentage of the Americans who are obese. The cause of heart disease and other causes.
Effect of Obesity
Key Points:
Obesity has become a merger issue in America. Nearly two-thirds of the American adults about (130 million people) are overweight or obese.
Approximately 15 percent of children and adolescents are overweight
Childhood obesity is also a growing concern in the United States
Obese adolescents are at high risks of dying from heart disease in adulthood
People who are obese are likely to obtain medical conditions including:
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure (also known as hypertension)
- High cholesterol (also known as hypercholesterolemia)
- Stroke
- Congestive heart failure
- Gallbladder disease
- Arthritis
- Breathing problems
- Sleep apnea
- Gout
- Breast cancer
- Colon cancer
- Uterine cancer (endometrial cancer).
“A direct relationship exists between heart disease and diet. Although diet is not a direct risk factor, it affects several risk factors for the condition, including having diabetes, being overweight, and having high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol. Research has shown that following a diet low in fat, cholesterol, and salt, and high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can reduce the chances of developing heart disease.”

How is HIV passed on?
Unprotect sex is one way of passing on HIV to another. Having sex without any protection can carry the risk of HIV.
Second way of passing on HIV is drug uses, for example sharing needles in drugs can pass on HIV. When someone that is infected by HIV and they share drugs needle without cleaning can have a very high risk of getting HIV.
HIV can also be transmitted from infected mothers to there baby during pregnancy. It can be pass on to there baby by delivering and breastfeeding, but now there pills where the mother takes which prevent them from passing HIV to their baby.
A contact with a persons blood that is infect can also be another way of transmitting HIV. This is because someone with HIV enters someone else bloodstream which causes HIV.
These are different ways of transmitting HIV.

Effects of Smoking
Every year hundreds of thousands of people die from medical complications caused by smoking. These are immediate affects on smoking a cigarette:
· Raises heart rate and blood pressure
· Decreases blood flow around the body
· Brain and nervous system stimulated and then reduced
· Dizziness
· Watery eyes
· Weakened sense of taste and smell
· Loss of appetite
Due to these effects people have higher risks of developing these diseases:
· Heart attack
· Cancers: lung, throat, mouth, bladder etc.)
· Others
For pregnant women, it is important to know that the growing child in their womb may suffer if they continue smoking. The effects of smoking to a growing fetus include: low birth weight, premature birth, or stillbirth. Second hand smoke may cause lung cancer or heart problems to those who passively inhale smoke exhaled by smokers.
Smoking may make a person look cool , but it is bad for your health and you may have health problems when you grow up.
10 FACTS ABOUT MALARIA
This post is an overview on the facts about malaria like it's symptons, the causes, prevention etc......
Fact 1Malaria is a disease which can be transmitted to people of all ages. It is caused by parasites of the species plasmodium that are spread from person to person through the bites of infected mosquitoes.
Fact 2
About 3.3 billion people - half of the world's population - are at risk of malaria. Every year, this leads to about 250 million malaria cases and nearly one million deaths. People living in the poorest countries are the most vulnerable.
Fact 3
One in five (20%) of all childhood deaths in Africa are due to malaria. It is estimated that an African child has on average between 1.6 and 5.4 episodes of malaria fever each year. Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria in Africa.
Fact 4Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are two basic elements of malaria control. Early and effective treatment of malaria can shorten the duration of the infection and prevent further complications including the great majority of deaths. Access to disease management should be seen not only as a component of malaria control but a fundamental right of all populations at risk.
Fact 5Inappropriate use of antimalarial drugs in the past century contributed to widespread resistance in the malaria parasite to drugs such as chloroquine, leading to rising rates of sickness and death. Over the past decade, a new group of antimalarials – known as artemisinin-based combination therapies – has brought new hope in the fight against malaria.
Fact 6The main objective of *malaria vector control is to significantly reduce the rate and number of cases of both parasite infection and clinical malaria. This is achieved by controlling the malaria-bearing mosquito and thereby reducing or interrupting transmission.
Fact 7Long-lasting insecticidal nets can be used to provide protection to risk groups, especially young children and pregnant women in high transmission areas. The nets are effective for a number of years (3 to 5 years, depending on models and conditions of use).
Fact 8Indoor residual spraying is the most effective means of rapidly reducing mosquito density. Indoor spraying is effective for 3 to 6 months, depending on the insecticide used and the type of surface on which it is sprayed. (DDT is effective for longer periods, up to 12 months in some cases).
Fact 9
Pregnant women are at high risk not only of dying from the complications of severe malaria, but also spontaneous abortion, premature delivery or stillbirth. Malaria is also a cause of severe maternal anaemia and is responsible for about one third of preventable low birth weight babies. It contributes to the deaths of an estimated 10 000 pregnant women and up to 200 000 infants each year in Africa alone.
Fact 10
Malaria causes an average loss of 1.3% of annual economic growth in countries with intense transmission. It traps families and communities in a downward spiral of poverty, disproportionately affecting marginalized and poor people who cannot afford treatment or who have limited access to health care. Malaria has lifelong effects through increased poverty and impaired learning.However, it is preventable and curable.

Harms of Smoking and Health Benefits of Quitting
'Cigarette smoking and exposure to tobacco smoke cause more than 440,000 premature deaths each year in the United States'. smoking is really addictive because of the nicotine which enters the lungs and is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream and travels to the brain in a matter of seconds. All forms of tobacco are harmful and addictive. There is no safe tobacco product.

Yellow fever vaccine modified to fight Malaria
There is no vaccine for malaria, millions of people died and kill a child every 30 seconds. But we can make a change in our life with a new discovered from The Rockefeller University; they have transformed the yellow fever vaccine to prime the immune system to fend off the mosquito borne parasites that cause the disease.
One form of the malaria parasite is called sporozoites, it can wake the immune system which can help to protect against further infection.

The sunday times article on women
Women,in general, could earn less than men for the next 150 years because of discrimination and ineffective government policies, according to leading economic analysts.
The salaries of today’s young women are still less than those of their male colleagues, and the inequality has changed little this decade.
In the report by the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP), at the London School of Economics, the imbalance has been blamed on women who take maternity leave and work part-time after having children.
However, it also challenges the effectiveness of recommendations made earlier this year by the Women and Work Commission, which was set up by the Government in 2004 to tackle unequal pay.
The report on women’s salaries found that even those who worked full-time and did not take career breaks would earn 12 per cent less than their male counterparts after ten years.
It said:
“We are used to each generation of women making progress relative to the one before. But this process has slowed with the current generation doing only slightly better than the previous one."
Similar numbers of women and men were in work aged 20. But by the age of 30, there was a 20 per cent gap between the numbers of male and female workers, indicating that most women still take time off when they have children.
Alan Manning, the author of the report, said: “The problem is not that women are choosing one career, such as hairdressing, rather than another, such as plumbing. It is that they are continuing to choose family over career at some point in their life.
When Women they return to the labour market they often work part-time. This reduces job security, and inevitably the women earn less.

Economic role of women in islam
Summary:
●Equality between men and women is possible because they are both human;
●They have similar brains, hearts, lungs, limbs, etc.;
●But they have natural differences→ physicaly, mentaly, emotionaly and psychological qualities, inclinations and abilites;
●Women in islam countries have the same rights and priviliges as the men
●Equal religious duties and rituals are required from both women and men
●Men and women have similar obligations and responsibilities to reform and correct the society to the best of their capability
●Islam entitles women to the same rights as men in terms of education and cultivation
●Women are equally qualified and allowed to engage in financial dealings and property ownership
Quotes:
"It is natural for a man to need and find fulfillment with a woman and for a woman with a man, since they are created one from the other and for one another. They both are inseparably bound to each other. Neither can they find fulfillment except when in the company of the other as legal and honorable mate and spouse, as Allah (The Almighty) says in His Majestic Book, the Qur'an, mentioned in the two verses cited in the preface:
(O Mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you in the Sight of Allah is the believer who has Taqwa (piety and righteousness). Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.)"

economic role of women
Women were always seen as the ''weaker'' gender because people believed they were physically not as strong as men.
Nowadays, women still face discrimination at work because of their gender. In addition, they could face the possibilty of sexual harasement at work.
It has also been proven that women work longer hours than men due to their ''double shift''. Women with both a family and who are employed are known to work day and night continuously.
Women with families tend to have much lower job security in relation to men as they tend to be employed only half-time. This decreases their job security to a great extend.
Decades ago, women who wanted to receive education where ignored. However, in today's society both women and men receive an education in developing countries and are less discriminated because of their gender.

An Apple a Day Keeps Strokes at Bay
This article from the BBC states that having a high intake of fruits and vegetables with white flesh can decrease your chances of having a stroke by up to 52%.
More research needs to be done into why it is white fruits in particular that are of benefit.
Researchers recommend eating all colours of fruit.
Quotes:
"Eating one apple a day is an easy way to increase white fruits and vegetable intake."
Dr Sharlin Ahmed from The Stroke Association said the findings should not deter people from eating other colours of fruit and vegetables.
"All fruit and vegetables have health benefits and remain an important part of a stable diet. A lot more research is needed before the colour of our groceries alone is used to determine what health benefits they may have. Everyone can reduce their risk of stroke by eating a healthy balanced diet that is low in saturated fat and salt, exercising regularly and ensuring that your blood pressure is checked and kept under control."

The wage gap between males and females:
- When comparing wages that both genders receive when working the same hours, one can see that a woman working 40 hours per week, would earn only 85% of the amount that would be earn by a man, and women working 60 hours per week, would only earn 75% of the money that men working the same hours would be receiving;
- Women have to work longer than men to receive a promotion;
- It is said that men are more appreciated as workers, since feminine skills are ranked as less prestigious and therefore deserve to be paid less;
- Women in America earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man;
- Most of the workers occupying the low-paid jobs are women, while most of the workers occupying the higher-paid jobs are male;
Quotes:
- "In Britain thousands of women remain in poverty and all women workers suffer from the gulf of pay between men and women" ;
- "If women earned the same as men, the U.S. GDP would be 9 percent higher; the Euro-zone’s would be 13 percent higher, and Japan’s would increase by 16 percent";
