General Facts on the effects of Global Warming
- Global sea level rose about 17 centimeters in the last century.
- Earth has been warming rapidly from 1970s. The warmest ten years are in the past 12 years.
- Oceans have been absorbing most of the heat which has warmed the top 700 meters of oceans which has affected ocean life a lot.
- Greenland and Antarctica's ice sheet have decreased in mass. Data from NASA's Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment show Greenland lost 150 kilometers cubed of ice per year between 2002 and 2006, while Antarctica lost about 152 kilometers of ice between 2002 and 2005.
- Arctic ice has declined rapidly in thickness and length in the last several decades.
- Since the industrial revolution, the acidity on the surface of the oceans have increased by 30%. We are emitting too much CO2 that CO2 absorbed by the surface of the ocean has increased by 2 billion tons a year.

what do you feel about global warming and what are you doing to stop it?
ReplyDeleteI thik global warming is getting very serious because if the Earth heat up on this rate for long then it can destroy habitats of many species. To stop global warming, I try to consume less energy and water. So when i'm not in a room then I close the lights. When I take a shower, I do not waste time wasting the water. I try to take public transport instead of my car to places I need to go. What about you? What do u do to stop Global Warming?
DeleteHow is global Warming affecting you? What do you think will happen in the future? How can it affect humans and other species?
ReplyDeleteWell researched facts!!
Global warming is affecting me right now because due to the awareness of global warming, I try to save electricity use less water, turn off the heating when not needed and go by public transport or by cycle - this is how it affects me. In the future, I think we will have a very bad environment with a lot of greenhouse gasses that will increase the temperature in the future by a lot. The species who can adapt to this environment will survive and those who can not adapt will die.
Deletewhat do you mean by that it has affected ocean life?
ReplyDeletecan you tell me how much damage has happened?
So much ocean life lives in the top 700 meters. So if the ocean water warms up then these lives will need to go to colder places to to adapt to the water because they can't live in warm water.
DeleteSome studies suggest that we have already passed the point of no return to save some of the world's coral reefs. But life adapts to changes in climate... won't life just adapt again and evolve to survive???
DeleteYes life can adapt to the recent changes and survive but then there will be many species that will be extinct because they can not adapt fast enough because the rate of climate change is too fast for them. So some species may adapt but others might not.
DeleteYou have some really good facts, but some are really straight forward.
ReplyDeleteWhich ones do you think are straight forward??
