Abortion is a thing that should be stopped world-wide. It is murder, and I am COMPLETELY against it!
This article is about an abortion that took place in Indiana. It's about a seventeen year old girl that got pregnant and didn't want to keep the child so she happened to be in a state where it was possible to have abortions without parental permission. Her parents didn't know about the abortion and she ended up dying from it. It took place in an illegal abortion center. [These do usually not meet a satisfactory standard, and cause a lot of deaths worldwide]. After this case, a new law was put in place stating that every woman under the age of 16 or exactly 16 has to have parental permission and proper discussions with their parents before deciding to have an abortion.
There are also other serious abortion cases on the following pages, but i decided to put this one up as the girl was around our age and we could relate more to it than the other articles.
what about in the case of a pregnancy which occurs as the result of a violent rape?
ReplyDeleteGenerally, many women might want to abort the baby because they think that they are not able to take care of the baby or because it might be a constant reminder of the rape. They might also fear for the child's future. Being a child resulting from a rape will mean that they grow up without their biological father, and they might be bullied because of this.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would not even consider an abortion even if that was the case. Even if what had happened to me was traumatizing, killing the baby that was a result of the rape wouldn't change what had happened and it would make me a bad person too.
Do you feel so strongly about this that you think it should be a universal law?
ReplyDeleteI do not believe it should be made a universal law, because I believe that it should be a personal decision. Whether a person decides to abort a child is their own personal choice although I do think it is a TERRIBLE thing. I am so strongly against it, that personally I would never be able to do it, no matter what the situation is. If people are immoral and decide to kill an unborn child, that is their choice!
ReplyDeleteSo would you support it becoming a law, even if doing so meant that some people felt that their human rights were being violated by it being so?
ReplyDeleteOverall, abortion does mean murdering a human being - whether born or not. However, even though murder can never be justified in extreme cases like rape it is up to the woman to decide whether to have the child since it is the product of a traumitising event. In addition, is it better for children to grow up with parents who may be emotionally unstable or financially not capable to take care of the child? This does not mean that abortion is morally acceptable,. But whether it is ethical or not, it is still being done today.
ReplyDeleteSo the fact that its being done today means we shouldn't question it? I feel that we need to be clear about our moral standpoints in order to make sense of the world?
ReplyDeleteIs the issue or abortion all or nothing? Are there ever acceptable cases for abortion?
Can we take a standpoint ie that we abhor abortion but accept that people have the right to decide?
Does accepting other right to decide weaken our moral standing?
